Internet of Things homes in

Image
AT THE recent Samsung Electronics’ 2019 Southeast Asia and Oceania (SEAO) Forum – its 10th to date – held in Singapore, the electronics giant outlined its vision and strategy for the Internet of Things (IoT) experiences this year. Besides exhibiting its connected solutions based on the ‘New Bixby’ (Samsung’s intelligence platform), the company also unveiled its latest range of products, including Samsung’s 2019 QLED TV line-up, the next-generation Family Hub refrigerator, the QuickDrive washing machine technology, and more. Although 8K TVs look to be a pipe dream for most of us, Samsung has been investing heavily into making sure its 8K TV offering is the best in the market – and that is not just marketing spiel. The star of the show was Samsung’s 98in QLED 8K, its most significant yet. Also available are the 65in, 75in, 82in, and 85in models. Each of Samsung’s QLED 8K TVs is enhanced with Samsung’s proprietary Quantum Processor, the AI-powered picture-processing semiconductor t...

Chuck’s world

Image
LIVING in today’s narcissistic age where some see Instagram’s parlour trick filters or the extreme cases of botox injections as a little more than a nuance. By any means, it is not an act of rebellion but rather she sees it as a way of apprecia-tion for the material self, the social self and the spiritual self. Because at the end of the day, what is more important than self-love? However, the capacity to feel self-love is scarce and that self-worth is sometimes hard to value. Jane shares: “Self-love is my utmost priority in life. I know everyone has a unique way to approach it with the same goal of doing something good for ourselves. “That gave me an idea to start something that would radiate positivity and the message of self-acceptance, self-empowering and self-care to everyone that I could possibly reach out to.” Hence, Chuck’s is an open diary and a safe space, a lifestyle brand founded by Jane herself as a declaration of sentiments in favour of all things positive while in ...

Postmodern romance

Image
I F social media has been the cornerstone for many to launch their careers, can it also be a place to find love? A household name and parvenu, Jane Lau or widely known as Jane Chuck and like many other public figures who have built their career on the social media landscape, thrive on their interaction and lend coveted influence to brands. Jane and I met at a café to talk about her recent wedding engagement and most importantly the notion of love in postmodern times. Her presence is warm and nonchalant, as we sit down after some chitter-chatter I slipped in the question: “So, when’s the big day?” She openly revealed that her wedding is set to take place at the end of December 2019. The 27-year-old ‘affluencer’ – influencer who has actual influence, knows that public appearance and private life are inextricably intertwined, though through the years she attempted to keep the romance behind closed doors. In September 2018, she took to Instagram to announce the exciting news of her ...

In the shadow of the Warrior

Image
IN HIS time, Bruce Lee broke the glass ceiling for Asian actors, and has since remained a bona fide global superstar with millions of fans around the world, even decades after his untimely death in 1973. While the martial art films he shot during the last few years of his life are what built his legacy, his television success was limited to the short-lived The Greet Hornet (1966-1967), where he played the eponymous crimefighter’s kick-ass sidekick Kato. In 1971, Lee pitched an idea for a TV series he called The Warrior , about an Asian martial artist, played by himself, and his adventures in the American Wild West. The idea was believed to have inspired the 1972 series Kung Fu , although that remains in dispute to this day. At the time, Lee himself was considered for the role, which eventually went to white actor David Carradine. Lee was quoted in interviews at the time as saying that he understood why Hollywood would be hesitant about taking a business risk with a non-white l...

The Best Diet for Chest Pain

The Dean Ornish program that led to improved arterial function and the dramatic drop in angina attacks—a 91 percent reduction in reported frequency of angina—is not just about putting people on a plant-based diet. It also involves recommendations for moderate exercise and stress management. We know exercise alone can improve endothelial function, so how do we know diet had anything to do with it? This is the subject of my video Plant-Based Treatment for Angina . Going back to Ornish’s first publication, he put cardiac patients on a quasi-vegan diet, with no added exercise—just diet and stress management—and got the same 91 percent reduction in angina attacks within just 24 days. And Dr. Esselstyn was able to improve angina using a plant-based diet as the only lifestyle intervention. There are published case series going back to the 1970s documenting this. One study participant, Mr. F.W., had chest pain so severe he had to stop every nine or ten steps. He couldn’t even make it to...

Big Man Training

Image
When you need to add some size to your frame as fast as possible. Big Man Training (BMT) was the name of the program the strength and conditioning coach at my first professional rugby club put me on when they needed to add some size on my frame as fast as possible. It worked.   In fact, it was the first training program to put any significant muscle on my frame . Up until that point, the standard 3x10 and 5x5 programs I’d followed had failed miserably. To this day I still revisit BMT with clients that need a plateau busting mass gain routine.   read more from Breaking Muscle https://ift.tt/2UZzOHe
