Celebrate Malaysia with over 40 Malaysian movies for free
In the spirit of national pride, Astro and NJOI customers can catch over 40 Malaysian films for free from Aug 30 to Sept 17 on the dedicated Malaysiaku HD Channel (CH 700), along with premium documentaries.
The titles are available on Astro TV, On Demand and Astro GO as well as NJOI.
These films and documentaries showcase the diversity of Malaysia. They will bring back fond memories and at the same time, inject a sense of history and pride among Malaysians irrespective of race or age.
Among the films that the Malaysiaku Channel will feature are P. Ramlee’s classics – Pendekar Bujang Lapok, Do Re Mi, Ali Baba Bujang Lapok, Nujum Pa’ Blalang and Sergeant Hassan; Yasmin Ahmad’s Sepet, Gubra, Talentime, Mukhsin, Rabun and Muallaf; as well as more recent blockbusters, including Ola Bola and The Journey directed by Chiu Keng Guan; Hantu Kak Limah directed by Mamat Khalid; En Veetu Thottathil directed by Karthik Shamalan; Munafik 1 & 2 directed by Syamsul Yusof; Paskal directed by Adrian Teh; and Abang Long Fadil 1 & 2 directed by Syafiq Yusof.
During a panel discussion about the local industry and the future plans of the filmmakers, director Chiu was asked which of his films were the most meaningful to him. He replied: “I would choose Ola Bola because I am a football fan, but also it reminds me of the golden era of Malaysia not only in terms of football but the whole country came together because of it.”
Soh, director and producer of Polis Evo 1 & 2, said: “As a filmmaker, the biggest challenge is trying to identify what resonates with the audience the most and something edgy at the same time. It is an ongoing learning process.”
He added that it is also a challenge to add positive messages to films “on top of everything else”.
Customers can also enjoy premiering Malaysiaku documentaries, including the two-part Tun Dr. Mahathir: Perjuangan Belum Selesai, a documentary reliving the historical 2018 Malaysian General Election; as well as the Road to Nationhood documentary series featuring historic moments in Malaysian sports.
Customers can stream all titles anytime on demand. For more information on the Channel 700 line-up, visit watchod.com.
