For Best Results Train the Mind, Body, and Emotion

Image
Lifestyle change often fails because we try to do too much and we train too little. Have you ever been driving down the interstate when it occurred to you that a sharp turn of the steering wheel in either direction would send you and your cargo flipping to an early grave? Not a pleasant thought, but it is surprisingly common. We all have these moments of recognition where we are reminded and possibly frightened by the immense power we hold. Perhaps you’ve had similar thoughts when holding a newborn or a ladder for a friend. read more from Breaking Muscle https://ift.tt/2UimgXD

No single ‘gay gene,‘ according to largest ever DNA analysis

Image
LIKE SIZE or intelligence, sexual attraction isn’t defined by one gene alone, but is instead the result of the complex interplay between multiple regions of the genome and hard to pin environmental factors. That’s the conclusion of an analysis conducted on half a million DNA profiles as part of a giant study by researchers in Europe and the United States published in the influential journal Science on Thursday. Its authors hope to bury the notion, popularized in the 1990s, of the existence of an all powerful “gay gene” that determines sexuality in the way eye color is defined. “We...found that it’s effectively impossible to predict an individual’s sexual behavior from their genome,“ said Ben Neale, a member of MIT and Harvard’s Broad Institute, one of several organizations involved in the work. Sexual orientation does have a genetic component, say the researchers, confirming previous smaller studies, notably on twins. But the effect is mediated by a myriad of genes. “There is no...

Michael Mann eyes Heat 2 film

Image
MICHAEL Mann wants to make a big-screen sequel to Heat , the iconic movie that brought Hollywood legends Al Pacino and Robert De Niro together for the first time, the director has told AFP. The sprawling 1995 epic starring Pacino as a Los Angeles detective pursuing De Niro’s heist gang boss across the city is considered a classic crime thriller. Mann announced in 2016 that a novel inspired by Heat would be published by his own HarperCollins publishing imprint – and shared fresh details with AFP. “The novel is about two-thirds written, and it’s the prequel to Heat and it’s the sequel to ‘Heat’ rolled together,“ said Mann. “So it’s everything before the movie and everything after the movie.” Asked if he plans to give the novel the movie treatment, Mann said: “Of course!” before adding that he could also foresee it evolving into a television series. “Initially a film, but the landscape is changing so radically and so quickly, who knows?” he said. Mann said the book would explor...

Meanwhile, Red (Sudeikis) is enjoying his role as the island’s angry egg-saving hero. At first in disbelief of Leonard’s claims, he soon realises the icy cannonballs have appeared on Bird Island too. He then joins forces with the green king, hoping to keep the adoration at home going, Together with speedy Chuck (Josh Gad), loveable Bomb (Danny McBride), kind-of-a-coward Mighty Eagle (Peter Dinklage), Chuck’s super-smart sister Silver (Bloom), piggy assistant Courtney (Awkwafina), and tech-pig ...

Movie review: Ready or Not

Image
THIS dark comedy-horror might seem predictable in parts but it is a fun ride nonetheless, due in part to its talented cast and premise. Former foster child Grace (Samara Weaving) is preparing to get married to Alex Le Domas (Mark O’Brien), the son of the wealthy Tony Le Domas (Henry Czerny). Despite some half-hearted attempts by Alex and his older brother Daniel (Adam Brody) to dissuade her from going through with the ceremony, Grace is determined to go through with the wedding and finally be part of a family. That very night, in the eerie dimly-lit mansion (already an indication that something is not right), Grace is brought to a special room and face the entire family. Tony, then tells her the story of how his great-grandfather made a deal with a mysterious benefactor, requiring the family to follow a special tradition. Each new couple are given a card drawn from a mysterious box for a game the whole family will play. Grace gets one that says Hide and Seek. Anyone who draws t...

Specificity Versus Transference In Powerlifting

Image
Your ability to move up and down the spectrum of specificity based on what will yield the best long term results is a critical skill. Specificity is a core principle in sport science . It’s the degree of association between training and performance outcomes. 1 If you’re a powerlifter this means that the training you do should be focused at getting you better at squatting, benching, and deadlifting. But this is where the disconnect occurs with coaches; between the principle and its application.   read more from Breaking Muscle https://ift.tt/2UdChOy
